Meet the Nexies

We’re quite the crew.

With offices in Virginia Beach, VA and Washington, DC, Nexus Direct is home to a close-knit group of self-starters and overachievers (creative strategists and techy geeks alike). We’re as diverse as the clients we work with, and we think that’s pretty important. Different perspectives, different talents, but one thing can be said about all of us: we possess an infectious zeal for obtaining the best possible results for our clients. And we think they’d agree. Read on to find out what makes each of our Nexies so awesomely unique.

We’re left-brained and right-brained. We’re cat people. And dog people. Some of us are loud. Others are quiet. We’re musicians. Surfers. Gardeners & Gamers. Fishermen. Sport Enthusiasts. Shopaholics. Cooks & foodies. . Dancers. Golfers. Plaid Shirt Wearers. Bikers. Volunteers. Lego Builders. Art Enthusiasts. Poets. Boaters. Campers. Athletes. [ Show All ]

Laura Thompson

Controller / HR Manager

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. – Albert Einstein

As the director of our Accounting and Human Resources departments, Laura serves as the leader of all things finance and ensures that our agency’s processes are structured for success. Having worked across several industries with a passion for client results, her experience extends beyond the general ledger and into the goals of our clients’ programs.

Laura began her career in finance working as an Accountant for an international manufacturing firm, from which she then moved her way up to a Controller position for a market research company with both national and international clients. After starting her own company and eventually working for the state of Virginia as a Tax Representative, Laura found Nexus Direct and realized her love for managerial accounting. Through her ability to focus on client success and help principals grow their companies, Laura works as part of Nexus Direct’s management team to fulfill HR needs and grow the agency as a whole.

Outside the office, Laura enjoys being by the water — sailing, swimming, snorkeling or lounging on the beach with a good book. After moving around the country every few years as a child — from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to St. Croix — Laura finally settled down in Virginia Beach. In her spare time, she can be found volunteering within her community, hosting afternoon barbecues for family and friends, or enthusiastically keeping up with Florida State football. (Go Seminoles!)
